About Upward Bound

What is PACT, Inc. Upward Bound Tutorial & Advising Program @ Will C. Wood?

During the last 50 years, Plan of Action for Challenging Times (PACT), Inc. has served 60,000 young people in San Francisco, West Contra Costa, and Vallejo City Unified School Districts, placing approximately 36,000 students in colleges and other postsecondary institutions, most with financial assistance. PACT services have recently expanded to Vacaville Unified providing FREE tutorial, college advising, mentoring, and enrichment services as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s Upward Bound program!

Upward Bound provides Will C. Wood 9-12th graders with academic advising in core subjects including: English, Math, Science, Spanish, and more; as well as college advising to assist with postsecondary navigation, the college application process, and financial aid. Services are 100% FREE and provided at Will C. Wood High after-school (2-3 days per week), and virtually! The program also includes an enrichment summer component (details TBD). The best part is that eligible students have the opportunity to earn (2) stipends (AKA FREE MONEY) to be part of this amazing program!

Who Qualifies?

As a federal program under the U.S. Department of Education’s TRiO programs, our focus is on 9-12th graders attending a high school in Vacaville who are low-income AND first-generation-to-college (i.e., neither parent possesses a four-year college degree). While this will be the target population, other students who are not considered low-income and first-generation-to-college may still be considered.

How to Apply?

  • Complete an online application using this link: www.tinyurl.com/ub-app .
  • Once submitted, an Upward Bound advisor will look over the application to determine the student's eligibility. If eligible, the student and parent/guardian will receive a welcome email from the UB advisors with more info on programming and next steps. They will be assigned a mentor whom they will stay in contact with for the rest of the academic year.
