Colby Hawkins

Renown for its exceptional quality of music education, the Will C. Wood High School and Vaca Pena choir programs, under the direction of Colby Hawkins, specialize not just in performance but also:  music literacy, dictation, sight-singing, composition, arranging, instrumental skills, and character development.  Any course, whether entry or honors level, is rigorously paced and demanding.  Students use a class set of iPads and Chromebooks to supplement music literacy, composition, and piano skills.  In addition, all their courses are structured like college courses in that quizzes, homework, study guides, and lesson plans are all completed or available online.  The course app, 'Mr. Hawkins,' is available for free download on the App Store and Google Play.

Going outside our comfort zones to do service and gain confidence is one of the most fun and exciting parts of our program.  Our goal is to help students develop their best possible selves while encouraging them to acquire a life long love for music.  Mr. Hawkins' choirs from 7th - 12th grade have been earned 'superior' ratings at local, regional, state, and international adjudications for several years in a row.  He and his wife, also a music teacher, live in Colusa county with their son where they enjoy reading, gardening, and dancing.
