Will C. Wood High School is a collaborative learning community of students staff and families. Our mission is for each student to graduate fully prepared for college or a meaningful career, with the ability to think critically and creatively in order to make a positive impact in society and the global environment.
Scholarship Opportunities for 2017 Graduating Seniors
Every year Will C. Wood offers our seniors scholarship opportunities. Some of these scholarships come from local merchants, business service groups, clubs, and professional organizations and others are from within our own school.
The Individual Local Scholarships require their own individual application for each scholarship which can be found in the Scholarship Cabinet (bottom drawer) in the WCW Library. For information on these local scholarships please click on the following link Individual Scholarship Brochure. Deadlines for these scholarships vary and are listed on each application.
Scholarships that are listed under the Common Application Scholarships use a Will C. Wood Application that can be found in the Scholarship Cabinet (bottom drawer) in the WCW Library or by clicking on these links Common Scholarship Brochure.docx, Will C. Wood Common Scholarship Application Packet . Deadline for these scholarships are Monday, April 3, 2017 by 3:30pm.
New Scholarship to add to Common Scholarships as of 03/03/2017:
VPEF – Carolyn Kimme Smith Scholarship
Dr. Kimme Smith was the mother of our own Ernest Kimme, a teacher for many years in the Vacaville Unified School District. Dr. Kimme Smith was a noted radiologist, instrumental in developing mammography. Countless lives have been saved due to the mammogram. The scholarship will be in the amount of $2500.00. It will be given to a senior female who is interested in following the STEM pathway. Applicants should submit a transcript, with a 3.50 GPA or better, showing at least one STEM class; a 500 plus or minus word essay as to why they’re applying for the scholarship, advice of college planning to attend and three letters of recommendation, one of which should be from someone in the STEM field.
Spring State Testing
Each spring, all 10th and 11th grade students participate in The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Exams in English, math, and science. 11th Grade Students will test in english and math via the online Smarter Balanced (SBAC) Exams. 10th grade students will only test in science using a new online testing system (CAST).
This year, testing will take place from 3/27 to 4/7. Make-ups will be held the week of 4/10.
The 11th grade tests are very important as colleges and universities will use these scores to identify students who are "college-ready" in 11th grade. Students who meet the criteria may be excused from college entrance exams, and other placement tests required by most public and private universities. Student who almost meet the criteria may enroll in the ERWC English 12 class, or AP English 12 during their senior year at Wood, and as long as they earn a C or better they are deemed "college ready".
The daily bell schedule, and daily release times will differ from the regular schedule. The links below contain the full testing schedules.
If you have any questions regarding state testing, please call Mr. Landeros, Assistant Principal, at 707-453-6900.
