Band Camp is a great way to play fun music, get excited for the new year, and make a bunch of new friends. We have a busy year and we have a lot of ground to cover. Make sure you come prepared to work harder than you ever expected, and bring a positive attitude. We will spend time outside, so bring sunscreen and water, wear light clothing, and eat a good breakfast. We will plan food breaks into the daily schedule so make sure you bring/arrange something to eat every day.

Drum Line Camp schedule runs from Monday July 30th to Friday August 3rd: 8am to 12 noon. Band Camp schedule runs from Monday August 6th to Friday August 10th: 8am to 3pm. During camp we will learn rehearsal techniques, read new pep band music, learn band cheers, and play games and do activities for fun! Imagine a week spent just playing and learning new things, and making a bunch of new friends. That's what band camp is about!

Please register on this google form with Student and Parent name, contact information, instrument choice and which camps you will be attending. Drum line will need to attend both camps. We have been short low brass and we need Trombones, Baritones, and Tubas! If you can play any of these, you will help the band immensely in the stands and on the field; building a strong foundation for the other band members to play along with. Some sections have a waitlist - consider learning or using an secondary instrument you have played before or would like to play.

FAQs

Who can attend Band Camp?

Band Camp is open for ALL BAND STUDENTS enrolled in a Band Class (Jazz/Wind Ensemble/Symphonic) at Will C. Wood HS. Incoming Vacaville Unified 7th and 8th Grade students are also allowed and encouraged to attend.

Is Band Camp required to be in Band? Is Marching Band required?

Participation in Marching Band is not required to be in Band, however Band Camp IS required IF you want to be in Marching Band. Students in Marching Band will perform on the field at every home football game. Non-Marching students will play in the bleachers/stands each game. Our first home football game is August 17th, and we need to be ready!

Really, required? But we have vacation plans!

We understand that each family has their own plans for vacation. We ask that if you and your student value participation in Marching Band that Band Camp become a priority to attend.

... Really?

Yes. Band Camp teaches valuable fundamental skills that will be require mastery before performance. Band Camp also sets the tone for teamwork, morale, and unity. The experience of Band Camp cannot be replicated and is unique for each class of student leaders.

If your student cannot attend for a legitimate reason and you would like to speak with Mr. Roberts about it, please contact him at ericr@vacavilleusd.org

What happens at Band Camp?

Band Camp begins with group ice-breaking activities and team building exercises. All students will be divided into spirit teams for the rest of camp and the school year. Students will receive instruction in Marching and Movement - Stretching, flexibility, and mental and physical stamina building are emphasized. Students will be instructed in large and small ensembles on marching technique and music performance. At the end of camp, students will feel prepared to perform at football games, and with continued practice perform at other events as the Band's schedule permits. All students attending will get a copy of the Marching Band music packet, complete with all music to be performed at football, basketball, parade and pep rally performances for the year, with a schedule of performances and practices for the Fall semester. Students who do not attend Band Camp will receive these materials during the first week of school.
